Key Insights

  • H+M took a pre-designed front-end loading (FEL) package to EPC execution.
  • Full EPC project provided end-to-end solutions, from engineering design and procurement to construction and project management.
  • The project included installing equipment, piping, instrumentation, electrical systems, structural components, civil work, temporary facilities, engineering services, and construction

INTRODUCTION

H+M recently completed a debottlenecking project for a client's facility, which focused on increasing the flow capacity of a refrigeration system for low ethane propane and refrigerating butane feed.

The Problem

The facility’s existing refrigeration system required enhancement to accommodate increased propane and butane feed flow rates from existing pipelines. Modifications were needed to optimize the dehydration system and maintain higher product quality.

Challenges

  • Third-party equipment procurement and installation: H+M procured and installed third-party refrigeration equipment, including design, inspection oversight, and heavy haul transport.
  • Complex system integration: The installation involved equipment, piping, instrumentation, electrical systems, structural components, civil work, and temporary facilities. Further, H+M designed and installed all the tie-ins to the existing system and installed new loading pumps, flow control valves, and electrical upgrades.
  • Comprehensive piping network: The installation of a piping network comprising carbon steel and stainless steel pipes of different sizes was needed to facilitate the enhanced flow of propane and butane feed.

Outcomes

The outcome of the debottlenecking project included the following:

  • Timely project completion and client satisfaction: H+M Industrial EPC's expertise in design, procurement, and construction culminated in the successful execution of the debottlenecking project. The project delivered enhanced capacity and efficiency to the facility and contributed to the overall improvement of the client's facility.
