Core Job Responsibilities

• Serve as Process Engineering Lead on multiple, or intermediate sized, projects.

• Lead process engineering workstreams and coordinate with other disciplines (ME, Piping, I&C, CS etc).

• Work with clients to develop project scope.  Must be familiar with Front End Engineering activities and client stage gates.

• The ability and desire to lead and mentor less experienced engineers and clients in order to develop an optimal work environment for H+M and its clients.

• Develop complex process simulations (steady-state and dynamic)

• Develop of PFD’s, H&MB’s, and P&ID’s with no oversight.

• Approve process deliverables including datasheets, design basis, philosophies and process drawings.

• Provide technical oversight to procurement and construction phases.

• Interface directly with clients, vendors and project managers.

• Conduct equipment sizing and hydraulics for any system.

• Lead large studies (e.g. debottlenecking, energy optimization)

• Participate in client meetings and design reviews.

• Support all project phase deliverables and manhour estimates.

• Generate, and approve, process datasheets and participate in vendor package reviews.

• Generate technical report of performed engineering calculations or evaluations.

• Participate in internal design reviews and safety studies.

• Maintain and organize engineering documentation and design files.

• Support procurement and construction teams by responding to routing RFI’s.

• Assessing the adequacy of existing processes and equipment.

• Consideration of process and personnel safety in all designs.

• Work within company policy as outlined in the H+M Employee Handbook as well as the H+M Safety Manual and OSHA Safety rules.

• Perform other duties, as assigned by the manager, as needed.

Essential Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited university.

• 7 to 15 years of technical experience in EPC companies performing engineering calculations in accordance with Core Job Responsibilities above.

• Ability to lead safety reviews such as PHA, HAZOP, HAZID, SIL etc.

• Knowledgeable in the use of Process Simulators (HYSYS, Aspen Plus)

• Knowledgeable in the use of Bluebeam Studio software for managing and marking up drawings.

• Proven leadership in delivering complex process systems on time and budget.

• Strong interpersonal skills and integrity. Capable of establishing respect and credibility through actions, communications, understanding and personal presence.

• Holding yourself and others to high standards of accountability.

• Experience with designing all standard equipment including, but not limited to, the following: purification, pressure vessels, filters, reactors, distillation columns, pumping, metering, heat exchangers, firewater systems, water treatment, utilities, flare systems etc.

• Providing guidance and support to client

• Familiarity with common codes, best practices, and industry standards (ASME, API, NFPA, etc)

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

• PE Preferred.

• Field Experience (startup, walkdowns, operations etc).

• Preferred experience in oil & gas, petrochemical, specialty chemicals industries. Other focuses welcome.

Physical Requirements

• Occasionally lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds

• Sit for long periods of time

• Occasionally stoop, kneel or crouch

• Use hands and arms to reach for, grasp and manipulate objects

Tool Requirements

Environment

Primary working conditions encountered in this job include those found in a typical office setting. Process engineers may be asked to periodically visit an indoor/outdoor manufacturing setting, which includes exposure to outside weather conditions, work at elevated heights, climbing of stairs and ladders, and physical manipulation of tools and mechanical equipment. This job demands the use of typical manufacturing personal protective equipment as well as advanced protective equipment as needed.
